While the original authored media content (images, audio, text) of this application is copyrighted by the author, the "software framework" may be freely modified and adapted without restriction as an open source resource that allows future developers to similarly adapt and distribute.

Use freely! We ENCOURAGE teachers to freely use this interactive audio "fliplet" application without permission, cost, or restriction. This interactive audio "fliplet", as it is, is an "open educational resource" (OER) that anyone may use, distribute, and share freely.

So, you may freely copy, use, share, and distribute this "fliplet" without cost or restriction. You may incorporate it into anything you like, without restriction, especially in teaching or professional development. Please do NOT use the media content separately; the media content (images, audio, and text) belongs to the original authors of that content. Of course you can REPLACE all of the content using your own original media content. Again, the media content is owned by the authors of that content. The "fliplet software framework" is completely free to use or modify as you like.

Question: Can I adapt this "fliplet" application by substituting the content with my own media content?
Answer: Yes! This "fliplet" is based on an open source "software application framework". You may ADAPT and MODIFY this "software application framework" by REPLACING the copyrighted images, audio, and text with YOUR OWN ORIGINAL IMAGES, AUDIO, and TEXT. You may freely use, without restriction, and modify the open source "software application framework" structure of this "fliplet" as you like... as an open source application. Just use YOUR OWN original content (images, audio, and text). Of course, allow others to similarly modify your derived works. This encourages innovation and benefits us all.
.
Question: I am a teacher. Is there anything I need to do to use this "fliplet" in my school? Is it really free to use in classes without restriction?
Answer: It's really free to use without restriction. We ENCOURAGE teachers to use this and other "fliplets" without permission, cost, or restriction. We want early readers everywhere to benefit directly. As an "Open Educational Resource" (OER), this "fliplet", as it is, may be used for any purpose, without restriction or cost. Please do use it in the classroom or for educational support; if you do, we'd appreciate hearing from you!
.
Question: I am a teacher. I really am interested in making my own "fliplet". Is it feasible for me to consider that possibility?
Answer: Yes. Without "coding" skills, anyone with moderate computer skills could create an original fliplet by adapting this open source framework with original content. Yes, you are free to ADAPT and MODIFY the "software application framework" by REPLACING ALL of the authored content (images, audio, and text) with YOUR OWN ORIGINAL IMAGES, AUDIO, and TEXT. A teacher could use and modify the open source software structure of this "fliplet" to create a completely different "fliplet" application without restriction or cost. We encourage you to do that! Please read the next question.
.
Question: Are there professional development materials for showing how to adapt original content into a "fliplet"?
Answer: There are professional development video tutorials especially designed for teachers who have no experience in "coding" to adapt and create a "fliplet". The video tutorials show, step by step, how to adapt and create open source "fliplets" using original content that YOU create. So, if you can create image and mp3 audio files, you have the ability to create your own fliplets... with a little guidance.

Interested in creating your own "fliplets"? Contact Dr. Mike Beutner (Ph.D., Instructional Technology) by email at beutner@ulm.edu (Dr. Beutner coordinates the graduate program of Educational Technology Leadership (https://ulm.edu/~beutner/EdTech/index.html) in the School of Education (https://ulm.edu/education/index.html)) at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (https://ulm.edu/).
.
Question: I am a teacher. Can I modify the images, audio, and text for educational purposes?
Answer: Please do NOT modify the images, audio, and text media. Please do not use the media separately. Why? The media files are copyrighted content and owned by the author. If you use the "fliplet" AS IT IS, you may freely share and distribute this open source application, AS IT IS, without restriction. This consideration is much appreciated.
.
Question: So, does that mean that I can't use the images, audio, and text of this "fliplet" separately, as I like?
Answer: The images, audio, and text are copyrighted material; the media is owned by the respective author of that content. Do NOT use the images, audio, and text separately. INSTEAD, replace that content with YOUR OWN FILES. So, while the fliplet, AS IT IS, is free to use, please don't use the copyrighted media (images, audio, text) separately unless you get permission from the respective authors of that content.
.
Question: Are the images, audio, and text open source?
Answer: No. The images, audio, and text are copyrighted and owned by the respective authors. Please do not appropriate their content without permission.
.
Question: So, what's "open source" about this "fliplet"?
Answer: The software framework that makes a "fliplet" work is entirely "open source". The "application framework software" makes it possible to share YOUR OWN content in an engaging way as an interactive audio "fliplet" book. You can use, adapt, and modify the "application software framework" with YOUR OWN ORIGINAL CONTENT, as you like. Yes, you may freely use and adapt the "application software framework" in any way, without restriction, if you allow others to modify your future applications, as specified in the open source license, shown above.

So, just use your own images, audio, and text for your own content in your own applications. Do NOT modify or use any of the images, audio, or text from this "fliplet" in your own derived applications. The images, audio, and text in this "fliplet" application are copyrighted and owned by the respective authors. AS IT IS, this "fliplet" is "open source". You may freely use and share this "fliplet" without modifications.

You may copy, use, share, and distribute this "fliplet" application AS IT IS. Please do NOT modify or appropriate the copyrighted images, audio, and text content.
.
Question: Is it possible to get the "source code" for this application and put it on my school's or district's network?
Answer: Yes! For more information, send an email to Dr. Mike Beutner (beutner@ulm.edu) You are free to upload the application to your district or school network or website. The "source code" refers to the complete set of files that are uploaded to a website account that make an application work. When you upload the files to your organization's website account, the HTML5 software application will work immediately on any connected device. (Technical Note: There are NO server-side scripts, permissions, or integrations to set up. The source code works as an HTML file hosted on any generic website account. If you use a dedicated Wordpress site, however, you may need to seek technical support from your own support team to ensure that the fliplet works like a webpage.
.
Question: I'm worried about malware and viruses. How can I be sure that someone doesn't modify the "source code" and infect the computers at my school?
Answer: Some open source software on the Web is deliberately "hacked" to deliver malware and viruses. The only way to ensure that your version of this "fliplet" application is genuine and free of viruses and malware is to obtain the application's "source code" directly from us. Just send an email to Dr. Mike Beutner (beutner@ulm.edu) at the School of Education of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
.
Question: Do you have any other OER (Open Educational Resources) for early reading?
Answer: Yes, in fact we do. We develop open source interactive reading applications for early readers. Check this website hosted on the School of Education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe website:
